Volunteering
Community Volunteers - In a city like Broken Hill members of the community play a vital role in providing services to a wide range of people in need. Below are just some of the support organisations which you can join if you would like to play an active role in your community -
NSW STATE EMERGENCY SERVICE - The NSW State Emergency Service (SES) volunteers help their communities cope with emergencies. More than 10,000 volunteers give up their time in 228 locations throughout NSW to assist their communities during floods, storms and other emergencies. SES volunteers come from all walks of life and each contributes to the SES and their local community in their own way. There are many roles that an SES volunteer can participate in, regardless of age, gender or ability. You need to be 16 years of age to join the SES. To volunteer your time and be trained as an SES member, visit this website, http://www.ses.nsw.gov.au/volunteers/ or call (08) 8082 5500.
MEALS ON WHEELS - Meals on Wheels Broken Hill is staffed by local volunteers and provides a nutritionally balanced meal to frail, aged people, people with a disability, and their carers. The service is not means tested. Meals on Wheels also enables people to be independent in their own homes for longer.
